The meaning of Ayurveda
Ayurveda - a winged word that is nowadays synonymous with a variety of pleasant spa treatments of Asian origin. It is, however, much more than that. Ayurveda is one of the oldest surviving sciences, if not the oldest. It is a health science that, like yoga, has its origins in the region where today India and Sri Lanka are located.
The emergence of Ayurveda can be traced back several thousand years. If you are looking for a translation of the term Ayurveda, then that means as much as the knowledge of life. Originally, it was assumed that humans knew about their health and disease-causing factors and thus needed no written down information to maintain his health. The people were all very old.
However, this knowledge was lost over time. The gods, however, have brought this knowledge back to man and it has been written down in the Vedic scriptures that form the basis of Ayurveda. We at the Ayurveda hotel Ödhof take this knowledge of Ayurveda very seriously and try to provide our guests with the most authentic knowledge of Ayurveda.

Ayurveda - Applications
Stay healthy by Ayurveda
Health science Ayurveda is based on the idea that our life is guided by a certain energy. Stress factors, poor diet and illnesses can have a negative impact on them. The aim of an Ayurveda holiday should therefore be to bring the energies Vata, Pita and Kapha back into the natural flow and thus to restore the individual balance. This is done by special Ayurveda massages, herbal mixtures, a special diet and a changed way of life. All these factors also include a comprehensive knowledge of the environment and our nature. According to the Ayurvedic teaching, everything that happens to us and around us has an effect on our body.
Constantly and from the beginning of the birth, we should try to maintain or restore the balance of the acquired elements. It is not about the same measure of all elements - fire, water, earth, air and space - to achieve.
It is unrealistic if you want to achieve everything in a single Ayurveda holiday. Even by an Ayurvedic cure that lasts for several weeks it would hardly to be able. Rather, it is important to break your usual lifestyle. This should put the Ayurveda guest on the right path again.
If you pay attention to the balance of the elements, then you feel well and work preventively on health.
The effect of Ayurveda
Ayurveda describes a health science that affects a cooperation between of your body and mind and should gently lead to a successful, satisfied and healthy life.
- Improves the metabolic functions
- Cleans the organism
- Stimulates the immune system
- Ensures holistic recovery
The return to inner balance
The balance of the elements is not only disturbed by material, external influences in Ayurveda. Also, factors such as stress, restlessness, worry or mental incidents can disturb the balance. It is all about the internal balance.
So it is not surprising that an Ayurveda holiday is suitable for getting away from everyday life and developing a new perspective on the everyday things in life that are so often shifted by recurring routines. In this way the cycle can be broken. With new energy and new strategies, it becomes easier to cope with the rhythm of life.
It is not easy to integrate the teachings of Ayurveda into everyday life. However, it is not useful to overdo. Therefore, often a small change is enough to achieve a great effect.
Deceleration on vacation
The Ayurveda offers in our Ayurveda hotel are particularly suitable to slow down the day, to calm and to find relaxation.
A stressful, hectic daily routine usually leads to an increase of Vata. In return, the gentle and relaxing oil massages, such as:
- the head massage Shiroabhyanga or
- the Ayurvedic anointment Shirodhara,
to reduce the Vata and promote relaxation. That is why these massages are ideal to slow down and relax.
You can book the following authentic Ayurveda treatments during your stay in our Ayurveda hotel:
If you are still not sure which of these Ayurvedic treatments suits you, then our Ayurveda therapists will advise you on the spot.
Ayurveda as a therapy
Especially in an Ayurveda hotel it is difficult to do the balancing act between Ayurveda offers in the wellness area and Ayurveda therapies. Since Ayurveda hotel Ödhof has its healers, we can also offer you an Ayurveda therapy. However, this requires extensive consultations and constitution diagnoses. These therapeutic measures include applications such as oil enemas, various oil treatments, fasting and nutritional therapy.
The holistically oriented Ayurveda treatments aim is a cleansing of the body and a balance of bio-energies. In the process, the constitution is first fixed in our Ayurveda Hotel in order to coordinate the further procedure with the Dosha type determined in the process.
Fasting and Panchakarma cures
The Panchakarma cure as well as the Ayurveda fasting have an identical aim – to promote health. However, they have different approaches. The Panchakarma cure sets above all on a physical detoxification and purification. Ayurveda fasting focuses on digestive fires in a special way and on the mental and spiritual area.
You must be aware that being a participant in an Ayurvedic treatment also means to learn how to waive. Especially stimulants such as caffeine, nicotine or alcohol are no-goes. While fasting meals are reduced to the minimum, in a Panchakarma cure a strict diet according to the rules of Ayurveda is observed, which is individually adjusted to the constitution of the guest. Both types of the Ayurvedic cure incorporate the diet, but in very different ways. Please note that we can only offer Ayurvedic cures at certain times and on request.
